Reduce Sworn Officer Attrition to 115 Officers Per Year

Mayor Strickland is working to increase the city's sworn officer count to 2,300 officers by 2020.  To reach this goal, the city is taking steps not only to recruit more officers, but also to encourage current officers to continue their career with the Memphis Police Department.  To that end, the city has instituted programs for retention and referral bonuses and provided three pay increases since January 1, 2016.  These efforts are paying off, as annual attrition has dropped from a total of 182 officers in 2015 to 131 officers in 2017.
